Statistics (Handling Data) for Year 5 (age 9-10)
We have a great selection of worksheets for Data Handling, or Statistics as it will be known from September in the new Programme of Study, including plenty of line graphs.
The new statutory requirements state that pupils should be taught to:
solve comparison, sum and difference problems using information presented in a line graph
complete, read and interpret information in tables, including timetables.
Probability has gone out of the Statistics category for Year 5. This is a rather pared down set of targets compared to the previous years.
Reading timetables can prove tricky for many children and they need plenty of practice with this. Work on timetables can be found in our Year 5 measurement category.
The Notes and Guidance suggest that children should begin to decide which representations of data are most appropriate and why. This is an important target as data is often displayed in inappropriate forms.
