Here we have another in our series on multiplication and tables. This time we are looking at the ten times table. This is often thought of as the easiest table as the digits don't change, but don't get caught in the trap of telling your child that you 'just add a naught' to multiply by ten.
Recognising that subtraction is the inverse of addition and the relationship between multiplication and division.
How long will it take to complete a page of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division questions?
A different way at looking at tables - division tables rather than multiplication!
A great way to show how multiplication works is by using arrays. 3 rows of 4 means 3 lots of 4. This means 4 x 3 or 3 x 4.
Remember that division is the inverse of multiplication, so dividing by 10 and 100 is just as easy as multiplying.
All tables can be practised on the tables squares.
It's a good idea to time how long it takes to complete each square and look for improvement as tables are learned.
More speed tests on tables. Remember, the grid can be completed in any order. Most children like to start with the easy tables, such as the twos and tens.
The last set of speed practise sheets, with a couple of certificates at the end!
Knowing multiplication tables really helps with fractions.
When working out which of these number sentences are true remember that the part in brackets should be worked out first.
