Block 1: Multiplication and Division

Today we are looking at how counting in threes can help us count in thirties.

Knowing your 2x, 5x and 10x tables can really help with other calculations.

Today we are going to use base ten blocks and a place value chart to see what happens when we multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number.

Today we will use the written method to multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number.

A great way to show how multiplication works is by using arrays. 3 rows of 4 means 3 lots of 4. This means 4 x 3 or 3 x 4.

Division is the inverse of multiplication. If you know one multiplication you can quickly make two division sentences.

Using just the 3 numbers, make multiplication and division number sentences.

Check answers by carrying out a different calculation eg double to check that halving is correct, or add to check that subtraction is correct.
